I get enough exercise just by pushing my luck

The exams are over…for now.

What a load of, well how can I put it politely, very difficult, pointless questions that did not assess my clinical know how but were able to tell me that the Royal College knows how to make money. Number one, you’re charged to take these exams, two, they create a pass mark after, so a number fail and pay again, three, they’ll disqualify you if do not use their own pencils. Instead of RCSI maybe RAC, no, not the Royal Automobile Club but Repeat And Cough Up.

Anyhow am back in the Wex, post call already! To try and calm my mind before another day of call I’ve been attempting to watch a dvd, yes my friends in the UK, we are usually pre and post call at the same time. Fun.

However no De Niro film is in my collection over here as this was the choice. There has been some luck though, through perseverance I found Robert’s best piece of acting yet.

I do apologise for putting up another vid, but if you watch this to the end. You too will be moved by such an oscar winning performance….I was in stitches!

9 out of 10 doctors will agree that 1 out of 10 doctors is an idiot

So I’m back home.

I’d like to say that I’m here purely for leisurely pursuits but unfortunately I have exams in about a week. I apologise as its been a while since I last updated the blog.

Anyhow, being home’s great apart from the occasional glance at text referring to foramens, cysts and acid balance. Sometimes one has to wonder whether the stuff they examine us on is really relevant. I’m sure next time I see a patient I will be telling them that according to Poiseuille’s law I won’t be able to stick a needle into them and when I’m leaving I’ll just mention their Urea Cycle is out of sync. I can see how this is all going to help me on my graveyard shift in A+E down in the Wex.

But being home does have its perks. The food, the town and the wonderful pleasure of not shaving. Uptil this morning, I thought not using my Gillette was great, however seeing this commercial I suddenly felt the urge to go smooth.

I apologise in advance if this were to happen the next time I go out.

Its not always about trauma…

Back in Wexford after a few days visiting Kilkenny.

Well it wasn’t really a visit, more like an attendance to a scheduled ATLS course. For the non medics, thats Advanced Trauma And Life Support course. Now it was good, tiring as well. However this man stayed at the Hibernian, ate at all me favorite places and went out to a little get together on the friday night! Yes, it was a night to raise money for the A+E in St Lukes Hospital and the theme was something along the lines of Playboy bunnies. Now this wasn’t a bad thing, however I ended up paying for a photo with some random nurses who remembered me, but I could not recall them. Oh dear.

Anyhow, it was nice getting lunch in Zuni, brunch in Cafe Sol, cocktails in the Marble City bar and having the time for coffee & cake in the Tea Rooms with my main man (well, registrar), Aftab.

Now its back to work and study, yes Im supposedly doing exams soon. Does anyone know what a Kreb’s cycle is?

Note: Congrats to V on his recent engagement! (this does unfortunately put pressure on the rest of us in the family)

C’EST LA FIN DES HARICOTS

Post call and the sun is out!

Oh yes, thanks to changing the clocks and being on the south eastern coast, I finally have the chance to restore my colour. That’s right, I no longer have the appearance of a Galaxy Minstrel but that of a Kinder Happy Hippo. This may soon change.

Anyway, while walking from the A+E the perfect track for sun started playing on my Zen micro, Sinequanon by Hybrid. Its all in french but smooth. Listen to it by clicking on READ MORE asap! Jack up those speakers…..here’s a few lyrics if its just that tad bit fast (a submitted translation may win yourself a drug rep pen).

Du lundi au vendredi
Pas de comedie
Pour moi le cine c’est le samedi
Si ca te dit, Saturday.
C’est deja demain
Maintenant que je sais pour toi
D’avance moi ca me dit bien
Que d’un commun accord soit
Prise la moindre decision
Sinon pas de cine. Sine Qua Non
C’est la condition

On the way home I noticed the road sign outside our place had a new appearance, It certainly does represent the tykes around Wexford. Apologies, as the pic was taken with my phone.

DONT FORGET TO CLICK READ MORE (the girl by the way is Deunan from the movie Appleseed, which I highly recommend).
