Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine.

The official break from work continues.

It has brought a rarity with it. Continuous smiles and laughter. Having flown home I embarked on a voyage to the city of Cambridge where I came across another gentleman with the new title of Dr (Congrats of course go to the aviator supremo that is the Walton). To celebrate, a student bar was hit but the highlight was coming across Gary Brolsma. Gary is the man who brought a fantastic romanian song to the masses and as you will see below, its infectious, it makes you smile and you will want to sing it. Many around the world have filmed themselves doing such a thing. WARNING: A video involving a certain dogg may b on the surfers paradise soon enough.

Thus, once Gary put a smile on this author’s face, it did not leave but persisted through travels back to Dublin, to Tullamore and back again. I now plan on spreading this throughout the city,to all the tracksuit parade, to all the lovely women I wish to know and to those that recently got their members, I mean memberships sorted. Well done M & O!

Turn those speakers up for a video worthy of an oscar.

First keep the peace within yourself, then you can also bring peace to others.

On occasion, I do enjoy a bit of regalement and as it gets darker I hope to increase my time with the few in the green rondure.

At the moment I am away from it for a while, taking a break.

The subject words are that of Thomas a Kempis, a mystic/monk from a europe past. Whether he made it to Istanbul I am not too sure but if he did, he may have seen such locals as below. I doubt they would have been given the pleasue of entering Topkapi Palace during such a time.

If something goes wrong at the plant, blame the guy who can’t speak English.

HELLO!

At last one returns to the scripted adventures of the dogg. Ive been away for way too long, whether this is due to the intensive child labour I partake in at the hospital or the fact that I have been venturing to places such as neighbouring Istanbul and that country on the other side of the world, Cork.

Im afraid the news of my demise is false. I know this dissapoints many as I hear there was a long list of people wishing to dedicate words of wisdom regarding my short life. I think the total was two people, the cleaning lady from James’s whose yoghurt i nicked without asking and the hospital drug dealer who thought I was his father.

Istanbul was amazing, Cork was humid and exotic. I shall be posting pics soon. But in the meanwhile I leave you with a very scary video from halloween nite. I was on call and the Surgical SHO/Resident Hospital Ghost, who goes by the name of Dr Poontang was filmed while attending to patients.

The summer night is like a perfection of thought.

As the study leave begins, as does the bookwork.

I’m now at the start of an awful period of practicing questions and learning facts that once I do the exams, I am unlikely to need again. At the same time summer seems to have died in Dublin. Rain and more rain. Yes, while others continue to enjoy wearing shorts in the rest of europe I’ve been busy contemplating dressing up as those Texans that parade around Trinity College believing its great fashion sense to wear illuminous macks with kakis.

I do miss the sun. Maybe because it brings out the fun side in us or more importantly I get to work on my tan. I have become pale of late and I am worried that I may no longer be able to hide in the dark with only my teeth giving me away. Thus I have been exploring how good my camera phone is at monitoring my increasing pallor. Unfortunately the pic is B+W but its evidence!

Meanwhile, as I put those pics up from Crecora, Dr Tobin did the same and I congratulate him on capturing some great and yet bizarre moments.

When the character of a man is not clear to you, look at his friends.

Tennis, Croquet, alcohol and some lovely women.

No, not the opening line of a Jeeves and Wooster tale, but last Saturday in Crecora, Limerick. Yes, I left Dublin for a jaunt in the middle of nowhere. It was top notch, with people from such exotic places as London, Greece, Kilkenny and ‘da southside…storrrreeeee’. A very enjoyable day it was and if I wasn’t prepared I don’t know what may have happened. If it wasn’t for a high quality basketball jersey, an international tennis match up may have ended up in complete disaster, starting a war between the Queen’s kingdom and Greece. Now, a sharp mind was also required, as a weekend away cannot be the same without an impromtu game of ’spot the ponce in the BMW’ on the way back to Dublin.

While looking back at the weekend, I was working and meeting veins dudes from Scottsdale AZ at St James’s aka ospigalibazzleboo san shadmus. That’s Irish/Gaelic for the Luas stop. Well, actually thats what it sounds like when the speakers are covered by the condensed vapours eminating from the adidas tracksuit parade and incontinent drug users. Don’t worry i have some adidas boxers, so I can hopfully still count myself as ’street’.

I have put up some pics from my days in Wexford, London and Crecora. Just click on the set : ‘Wexford and the Rest’ and enjoy.

I’m a nobody, nobody is perfect, therefore I’m perfect.

Back online after my lack of broadband moment.

Have joined one of those satellite/radio provider types…not bad so far.

So what’s been happening? Well being in St James’s has been great so far. It is a shame however, the old routine of going out on a thursday, getting bladdered and then surprising patients with your exotic breath in the morning is now a routine of the past. I may have to try to introduce this here or as advised by a 91yr old patient, I should drag my single self to bingo where i will meet her single friends. Could be an option.

Well, having seen so much in Dublin now that I am driving (a supermarket and the fresh appearance of adidas wearing brick throwers) I feel i have settled in. So much so, many of my surgical collegues are showing their true colours around me. This is a worrying situation as you will see from the picture I took with my phone on a night of that awful part of our job, overnight call.

Never go to a doctor whose office plants have died

And in Dublin I do arrive.

Yes, I’ve moved out of the Wex and back to the city I once hunted in, a year and a half ago. I have an apartment, no internet, no working washing machine and a balcony which is in desperate need of a hammock and girls from a pool party based in hills of LA.

There hasn’t been an entry for a while simply due to the lack of access and me discovering the new frontier of vascular surgery. So far so good. New interns : I hope will be good.

I type this as while on call surrounded by the funny plastic tubes and caricatures of genitalia. Let me remind you this is not my usual hang out but infact the infamous urology office, where with your coffee you can get a free tube of lubricant.

Tomorrow is sunday, a day of rest. I leave you with a vid, which shows Georgie-W singing away about such a day.

Read the fine print…

The contracts are out! No, not those for you eager assassins out there desperately wishing for your boss to be taken out but the hospital ones for the coming year.

By the looks of things I’m heading up to Dublin. This will be strange as I have been adopted by the farmboy hospitals for the last year and a half. Dont get me wrong there have been great times in the world of the welly. But as you’ve seen from previous rants, things are not always ‘ooooh aaaargh, Ambrosia’.

Rent in Dublin has now become an unofficial way of sexually assaulting your bank account. I have found a place, but whether my bank balance can survive being torn a new orifice is something I will have to keep a close eye on.

Anyhow I leave you with the link for pics from Arizona and New York. Was a marvellous two weeks. Click on the set in the right corner on the page to see them in chron. order.

“And that’s England’s finest victory over the Germans since the war!”- John Motson

Oh yes! Its here. The greatest tournament in the world is upon us and no, its not the lawn bowls international meet.

Having been in the hospital for the last 5 out of 7 days, I am looking forward to fabulous football and memorable lines such as that from Motty above. Another bonus is watching Sweden or some of the South American teams play. Here we see some amazing skills but we also see some great editing from the broadcast director. We see shots of the ball one moment, then shots of the female fans in their skimpy tops. Its a shame that RTE will focus on Eamonn Dunphy’s saggys.

As I wait to hear (hope, rather) from my boss regarding days off for England games, I continue to search for an England flag in Wexford. One was found on the ward but I still look for that small one to pin to my white coat.

I leave you with a classic ad which reminds the women out there of what a man’s priorities during these times are.

If you look like your passport photo, you’re too ill to travel

So im now in New York. Arizona was top notch, thanks to our host OT (not old testament, which radio stations throughout Phoenix were dedicated to). I shall post the pics when back up in the overdose laiden Wexford.

Was in Tribeca for a couple of days, this was very comfortable. Popped into the Guggenheim, unfort they closed the main section which is being done up on an exhib of Zaha Hadid’s work. Great architect, check her out:

The following pic is a sample of life in Tribeca with my cousin.

Note: OT = Oliver ‘I love my steak actively haemorrhaging’ Tobin
